# BlackTalon Counter-UAS System Tested at NATO BATT26 in Latvia

SPX Communication Technologies deployed its BlackTalon Ecosystem during NATO’s Baltic Trust 26 counter-UAS exercise in Latvia, where Allied military operators trained on the system under field conditions. The company said on August 25, 2026, that BlackTalon was one of four counter-uncrewed aircraft system capabilities selected for an operational role at BATT26.

Baltic Trust 26 formed part of NATO Allied Command Transformation’s Layered Counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems Initiative, or LCI-X, program of operational experimentation. The exercise brought Allied operators and industry together to test whether different counter-UAS technologies could support military operations beyond basic technical connectivity.

BlackTalon was developed by Enterprise Control Systems, part of SPX Communication Technologies. The open-architecture counter-UAS system can integrate multiple sensor types, including radar, electro-optical and infrared sensors, passive radio-frequency sensors, acoustic sensors and electronic attack capabilities.

During BATT26, BlackTalon received and fused available sensor data from six other companies alongside data from its own sensors, according to SPX Communication Technologies. Operators then used the integrated information to support the exercise scenario.

The Latvian training environment also presented a practical deployment challenge. The company said the BlackTalon sensor suite was elevated to maintain line of sight above Baltic pine trees exceeding 30 meters in height.

BATT26 followed earlier LCI-X Crucible Series activities in Romania and Finland. The Latvia event placed greater emphasis on how interoperable systems could support command decisions, information sharing and coordinated counter-UAS operations under realistic conditions.

The exercise comes as NATO members on the eastern flank continue to strengthen defenses against unmanned aircraft. Interoperability between sensors, command-and-control systems and effectors has become a central requirement as Allied militaries seek counter-UAS architectures capable of incorporating technologies from multiple suppliers.

SPX Communication Technologies said BlackTalon will remain in the Baltic and Eastern European region following BATT26, with further demonstrations and army trials planned over the coming months.
