**VILNIUS, October 20, 2026.** Lithuania has begun deploying new US-made AN/TPS-77 Multi-Role Radars (MRR) manufactured by Lockheed Martin, expanding its military air surveillance capabilities and strengthening integration with NATO's air and missile defense network.

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense confirmed on Tuesday that the mobile radar systems have been delivered to the country and are being installed by the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The equipment is intended to improve early detection of airborne objects while providing greater flexibility in monitoring national airspace.

"These radars have been delivered to Lithuania, and our armed forces are already deploying them," Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said, according to the ministry's announcement.

Kaunas added that Lithuania expects to sign further agreements before the end of 2026 as part of its efforts to strengthen both air threat detection and interception capabilities. The ministry did not disclose the number of AN/TPS-77 MRR systems delivered, their acquisition cost, or the expected date for full operational deployment.

## Integration With NATO Air Defense

According to the ministry, the new radars will transmit data in real time to NATO's Integrated Air and Missile Defense system, contributing to the Alliance's recognized air picture and improving coordination between Lithuanian and allied forces.

The AN/TPS-77 MRR is a transportable surveillance radar designed to support multiple missions, including long-range airspace monitoring, low-altitude aircraft detection and ground-based air defense operations.

According to Lockheed Martin's published technical specifications, the system offers an instrumented surveillance range of up to 463 kilometers in its long-range configuration, with 360-degree coverage. Its configurable low-level surveillance mode supports coverage of up to 150 kilometers. Actual detection performance depends on target characteristics, terrain and operating conditions.

The radar uses an electronically scanned antenna array and can be transported by truck, rail or military aircraft, allowing operators to reposition surveillance assets according to operational requirements.

## Lithuania Expands Its Air Surveillance Network

The deployment follows other investments in Lithuania's layered air defense architecture. In April 2026, the Ministry of National Defense announced the procurement of additional Saab Giraffe X1 radars, designed to detect and track smaller aerial targets, including drones.

While the Giraffe X1 systems support shorter-range surveillance, the AN/TPS-77 MRR provides broader airspace monitoring and an additional source of information for national and allied air defense networks.

The latest deployment also expands Lithuania's contribution to NATO air surveillance in the Baltic region, where allied forces maintain continuous air policing operations.

The Ministry of National Defense has not specified when the newly delivered AN/TPS-77 MRR systems will complete installation and enter full operational service.
