German defense supplier RENK Group AG and KNDS Deutschland have agreed to extend an existing contract worth approximately €130 million for transmission systems used in the Leopard 2 main battle tank and related armored vehicles.

Announced during AUSA 2026 in Washington, D.C., the agreement covers RENK’s HSWL 354 hydromechanical transmissions, TCS-354A transmission control units and G4MA11 gear selectors. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2029 and conclude in 2032.

The contract extension supports KNDS Deutschland’s ongoing production ramp-up as Germany and other NATO countries expand and modernize their Leopard 2 fleets.

**Dr. Alexander Sagel, CEO of RENK Group**, said the agreement reflects KNDS’s confidence in the company’s technology and delivery capabilities. He emphasized the long-standing role of RENK transmissions in maintaining the mobility of Leopard 2 vehicles.

**Dr. Axel Scheibel, Chief Technology Officer of KNDS Deutschland**, described RENK as a strategic industrial partner supporting the company’s increased production requirements.

The agreement follows a manufacturing milestone reached in June 2026, when RENK began production of its 4,000th HSWL 354 transmission at its Augsburg facility in Germany. The system has been used in Leopard 2 vehicles for more than four decades.

According to KNDS, approximately 3,300 Leopard 2 tanks and associated vehicle variants are currently operated by armed forces in 23 countries.

Neither company disclosed the number of transmission systems covered by the latest contract extension or identified the specific national procurement programs receiving the equipment.
