Romanian defense manufacturer **CARFIL**, a subsidiary of state-owned ROMARM, expects its first commercial contracts with Greek unmanned systems developer **ALTUS-LSA** in the second half of December 2026, following a newly announced cooperation agreement covering drone interception systems, ammunition and potential joint production in Romania.

Speaking to Radio România Brașov on October 21, CARFIL General Manager Mircea Petru Tanțău said the partnership could lead to contracts before the end of the year. The companies had announced their memorandum of understanding on October 19.

Under the agreement, CARFIL is expected to supply specialized ammunition for ALTUS-LSA's interceptor systems. The companies will also explore technology transfer and joint industrial development of heavy-lift unmanned platforms and counter-drone systems in Romania.

CARFIL's facilities in Brașov could support testing, evaluation and demonstrations of unmanned technologies. Additional areas under consideration include research, training and technical assistance.

## CARFIL Targets Drone Ammunition Production

Tanțău said ALTUS-LSA is interested in integrating explosive payload components manufactured by CARFIL into several of its drone platforms. He described the partnership as part of the Romanian company's broader effort to expand into unmanned systems and drone ammunition.

The Romanian manufacturer has also established contacts with defense companies in the Baltic states and Ukraine, according to Tanțău.

Founded in 1922, CARFIL specializes in ammunition and military equipment manufacturing and employs approximately 550 people. The company has been developing additional capabilities in unmanned systems and previously tested the Cuda and Sirin military drone prototypes in cooperation with US-based Periscope Aviation.

ALTUS-LSA, headquartered in Chania, Greece, develops unmanned aircraft for defense, surveillance and logistics applications, including its ATLAS family of multirotor platforms.

The cooperation with CARFIL could provide the Greek manufacturer with access to Romanian industrial and ammunition production capabilities while supporting CARFIL's expansion beyond its established weapons and ammunition business.

However, the October memorandum does not itself constitute a confirmed production order. Neither company has disclosed a contract value, manufacturing volumes or a binding investment commitment. Any production arrangements will depend on subsequent commercial agreements.
