Serbia has opened the 12th International Scientific Conference on Defense Technologies (OTEH 2026), bringing together approximately 200 military officials, researchers and defense industry representatives to examine developments in artificial intelligence, radar technology, robotics and advanced military systems.

The conference, organized by Serbia's Military Technical Institute and the Defense Technologies Department of the Ministry of Defense, opened on October 22 at the Omorika Hotel on Mount Tara. The program includes 160 scientific papers, including 15 accepted submissions from international researchers.

## AI, Radar and Robotics Among Research Priorities

Colonel Ivan Pokrajac, Director of the Military Technical Institute, identified artificial intelligence applications in the defense industry and improvements in modern reconnaissance and radar systems as key subjects of the conference's introductory presentations.

The research program covers integrated sensor and robotic systems, aircraft and flight dynamics, weapons and combat vehicles, ammunition and energetic materials, telecommunications, advanced materials, and military equipment maintenance.

These research areas are relevant to Serbia's domestic defense industry, including the development of more capable sensing technologies, automated platforms and modern weapons systems. However, the Ministry of Defense has not announced specific new weapons programs or procurement contracts resulting from the conference.

## Serbia Seeks International Defense R&D Partnerships

Major General Slavko Rakić, Head of Serbia's Defense Technologies Department, used the opening ceremony to emphasize the country's interest in expanding international research and development cooperation.

Rakić said Serbia is prepared to work with partner countries through researcher exchanges, joint development projects and cooperation in third-country markets. He also emphasized the role of domestic research institutions and defense manufacturers in developing weapons and military equipment.

Representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, government research institutes, universities and defense industry factories attended the event, alongside international researchers.

The biennial OTEH conference was established in 2005 and is intended to facilitate cooperation between scientific institutions and the defense industry. This year's edition is dedicated to Serbian mechanical engineer and robotics pioneer Miomir Vukobratović, whose research contributed to the development of humanoid robotics.
