Bosnia and Herzegovina Defense Exports Exceed €300 Million in 2025 Amid Trade Pressures

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s defense industry registered a notable increase in exports in 2025, positioning the sector as one of the more stable contributors to external trade at a time of mounting international economic pressure. According to figures published by Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić on social media, total exports from the dedicated-purpose industry exceeded €300 million during the year.

The breakdown shows that weapons and ammunition accounted for approximately €243 million of total exports, while products of related military and security applications contributed around €72 million. Officials indicated that the results represent a substantial increase compared to 2024, reflecting higher production volumes and continued foreign demand.

The defense sector’s performance contrasts with trends across Bosnia and Herzegovina’s wider export base. Recent trade data points to a decline in shipments to the United States, with total exports to that market falling by more than €50 million. Economists link the contraction to global trade frictions, shifting tariff policies, and softer demand in several industrial segments.

Against this backdrop, the defense industry has maintained export momentum, supported by existing international contracts and sustained global demand, particularly for ammunition. Authorities have stated that exports are conducted in accordance with applicable national legislation and international arms trade regulations.

The latest figures underline the growing weight of the dedicated-purpose industry within Bosnia and Herzegovina’s overall export structure. While officials continue to emphasize the need for broader export diversification, the defense sector remains a significant source of foreign revenue and industrial output amid persistent uncertainty in global trade flows.
