PRAGUE — The Czech Armed Forces have confirmed that unidentified drones have been detected near several strategic locations in Czechia, including military facilities — the latest in a series of mysterious drone incidents across Europe.

According to Czech news outlet iDNES, General Staff spokeswoman Zdeňka Sobarňa Košvancová stated that “there have been cases of unknown drones being spotted near important infrastructure facilities, including military sites.”

While the exact locations and timing of the sightings were not disclosed, Košvancová emphasized that the list of affected facilities remains classified information.

She noted that the Czech military is prepared to respond to such threats using a range of countermeasures: “Czech forces are equipped to detect, identify, and neutralize hostile drones either by kinetic means — shooting them down — or through radio-frequency interference, depending on the situation and level of threat.”

The reports come amid heightened regional alert following similar incidents elsewhere in Europe. On October 9, Estonia reported an airspace violation involving a “small object,” while Sweden recently announced a SEK 3.5 billion (US$367 million) investment in advanced anti-drone systems to strengthen its defenses.

The growing number of drone sightings near critical infrastructure has fueled concern among NATO members, as European militaries reassess their preparedness for asymmetric and unmanned aerial threats in peacetime conditions.
