Egypt and Bulgaria Push to Deepen Strategic Defense Partnership Ahead of EDEX 2025
Egypt and Bulgaria held high-level talks in Cairo to advance a broad strategic defense partnership ahead of EDEX 2025. Egypt praised the growing role of the exhibition in showcasing its defense-industrial capabilities, while Bulgaria confirmed that nine of its companies will participate.
Egypt and Bulgaria are stepping up efforts to advance their strategic partnership across defense and industrial sectors, following high-level talks in Cairo between Egypt’s Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah el-Dein Mostafa and Bulgarian Ambassador Deyan Katratchev.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Military Production headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, focused on expanding cooperation in multiple domains and aligning priorities ahead of the upcoming Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX 2025).
EDEX 2025 as a Key Milestone
Minister Mostafa highlighted EDEX 2025—scheduled for December 1–4 at the Egypt International Exhibition Center—as a central platform for showcasing Egypt’s growing defense-industrial capabilities. He underscored that the expo, now in its fourth edition, has already cemented Egypt’s reputation as a regional hub for advanced military technology and international partnerships.
According to the minister, the exhibition demonstrates Egypt’s ability to host major global defense events at a high standard while fostering access to cutting-edge land, naval, and air systems that support domestic manufacturing goals.
Strong Bulgarian Presence
Ambassador Katratchev emphasized Bulgaria’s commitment to deepening ties, noting that nine Bulgarian defense companies will participate in EDEX 2025. These firms cover a wide spectrum of advanced military systems, and Bulgaria sees the expo as a gateway to broader industrial cooperation.
He expressed confidence in Egypt’s organizational capabilities and called EDEX an “invaluable platform” for knowledge exchange and market expansion for both countries.
Expanding Industrial Cooperation
Both sides signaled interest in accelerating joint ventures, investment, and technology transfer between Egyptian Military Production companies and leading Bulgarian manufacturers. The ambassador praised Egypt’s efforts to improve its investment climate and its push to expand national defense production.
The talks are expected to pave the way for new projects and a deeper, long-term strategic partnership between Sofia and Cairo as both countries look to scale their defense-industrial footprints.
