KNDS and Leonardo Join Forces on New Mobile Artillery System for Italy
KNDS and Leonardo have agreed to jointly develop a new mobile artillery system, combining KNDS artillery technology with Leonardo’s protected wheeled platform for Italy’s upcoming army procurement programme.
Franco-German defence group KNDS and Italy’s Leonardo have agreed to jointly develop a new mobile artillery system, strengthening European cooperation in land warfare capabilities and targeting Italy’s upcoming army procurement programme.
Under the agreement, the partners will integrate a KNDS artillery gun module with an enhanced, protected wheeled vehicle platform developed by Leonardo. The combination is intended to deliver a highly mobile, survivable and modern artillery solution tailored to the Italian Army’s future operational requirements.
The collaboration brings together KNDS’s expertise in artillery systems and Leonardo’s experience in protected land platforms and system integration. The partners aim to offer a system capable of rapid deployment, high tactical mobility and improved crew protection, reflecting lessons learned from recent conflicts and the growing demand for flexible, wheeled artillery solutions.
Commenting on the agreement, Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani underlined the strategic relevance of the partnership, noting that the project confirms Leonardo’s commitment to developing integrated capabilities able to meet evolving operational scenarios and changing market demands.
The KNDS–Leonardo initiative is the latest example of deepening European defense-industrial cooperation, as major manufacturers increasingly pool technologies and platforms to deliver competitive solutions for national and allied armed forces.
