MBDA and PGZ Advance Plans for CAMM-ER Missile Production Facility in Poland
MBDA and Poland’s PGZ are progressing plans to establish a domestic production facility for CAMM-ER air defense missiles. The initiative supports Poland’s layered air defense modernization and aims to strengthen local industrial capacity.
European missile manufacturer MBDA and Poland’s state-owned defense group PGZ are moving forward with plans to establish a production facility for CAMM-ER surface-to-air missiles in Poland. The project is part of Warsaw’s broader effort to expand national air defense capabilities and reduce reliance on external supply chains.
The planned facility will focus on the production of the CAMM-ER interceptor, an extended-range variant of the Common Anti-Air Modular Missile family. This missile forms a key component of Poland’s Narew short-range air defense program, which is designed to counter a range of aerial threats, including cruise missiles, aircraft, and unmanned systems.
According to company information, the initiative is intended to transfer selected manufacturing competencies to Poland, enabling local assembly and potentially deeper industrial participation over time. This includes the integration of Polish defense companies into MBDA’s wider supply chain, with PGZ expected to play a central role in coordinating domestic production activities.
The move reflects a wider trend across Europe to localize defense production, particularly in the missile segment, where demand has increased significantly following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Governments are seeking to expand output capacity while strengthening supply chain resilience and sovereignty.
For Poland, the project is also tied to long-term defense planning, as the country continues to invest heavily in layered air and missile defense systems. The Narew program complements the higher-tier Wisła system, based on the Patriot platform, creating a multi-layered architecture intended to address both short- and medium-range threats.
Industrial cooperation between MBDA and PGZ is expected to evolve as the program advances, with further details on production scope, timelines, and technology transfer likely to emerge as agreements are finalized. Officials have indicated that the initiative will contribute to both national defense readiness and the development of Poland’s domestic defense-industrial base.
