OPTIX JSC and FragaX Form Strategic Partnership on UAS Development in Bulgaria
OPTIX JSC and FragaX have entered a strategic partnership to advance unmanned aerial system capabilities in Bulgaria. The cooperation will focus on ISR platforms, interceptors, and loitering systems. The initiative aims to strengthen domestic design and manufacturing capacity.
Bulgarian companies OPTIX JSC and FragaX have announced a strategic partnership centered on the development and production of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The cooperation reflects a broader effort to expand national capabilities in drone technologies and reduce reliance on external suppliers.
According to the companies, the partnership combines FragaX’s experience across the full UAS development cycle with OPTIX’s specialization in optronics and integrated counter-UAS solutions. Both firms have previously supplied systems to Bulgarian defense and interior institutions, positioning them within the country’s existing security infrastructure.
The initial phase of the collaboration will prioritize three areas. These include the development of an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance UAS platform designed for continuous autonomous operation, work on next-generation interceptor systems, and the advancement of loitering capabilities tailored to evolving operational requirements.
The companies indicated that integrating their respective design, manufacturing, and software expertise is intended to support the creation of domestically developed and produced systems. This aligns with ongoing efforts in Bulgaria to strengthen local industrial capacity within the defense sector.
The partnership may also contribute to the broader regional trend of expanding sovereign drone capabilities among Central and Eastern European countries, particularly in response to increased demand for ISR and counter-UAS solutions within NATO frameworks.
