BUCHAREST — Pakistan’s Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, paid an official visit to Romania at the invitation of General Gheorghiță Vlad, Chief of Defense Staff of Romania, underscoring Islamabad’s growing engagement with European defense partners.

Upon arrival at the Romanian Ministry of Defense Headquarters, General Mirza received a ceremonial welcome with full military honors, including a Guard of Honor, reflecting the importance both nations attach to their defense relationship.

Talks on Regional Stability and Defense Cooperation

During his visit, General Mirza met with Romania’s Minister of National Defense, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, where the two sides held wide-ranging discussions on regional stability, defense cooperation, and opportunities to enhance military-to-military engagement.

According to officials, both parties acknowledged the evolving security dynamics in their respective regions and emphasized the need for closer strategic collaboration to address shared challenges, particularly in counterterrorism, training, and defense industrial partnerships.

Expanding Defense and Industrial Ties

In a separate meeting with General Gheorghiță Vlad, General Mirza discussed professional military education programs, cooperation in defense production, and the establishment of regular strategic consultations between the two defense establishments.

The visit marks a continuation of Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach to European defense partners and reflects Romania’s expanding role within NATO as a bridge for defense collaboration with non-EU states.

Both countries are expected to explore new frameworks for joint training, technology exchange, and coordinated participation in future international defense forums.
