Poland Secures Domestic Production of Chunmoo Guided Rockets with New Homar-K Factory
Poland has taken a decisive step toward defense industrial independence as a Hanwha–WB consortium moves to establish a domestic factory for Chunmoo-guided rockets under the Homar-K program, strengthening local production, logistics resilience, and long-range strike capability.
South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace and Poland’s WB Electronics, operating through their joint venture Hanwha WB Advanced System, have taken a major step toward localizing Poland’s long-range strike capability. On 29 December, the consortium signed a contract with Poland’s Armaments Agency to build a domestic factory for guided rocket ammunition used by the Homar-K multiple rocket launcher (MRL) system.
The agreement—valued at approximately PLN 14 billion (around USD 4 billion)—covers the local production of CGR-080 guided rockets for Poland’s Polonised Chunmoo-based Homar-K launchers. According to Hanwha Aerospace, the facility is expected to deliver up to 10,000 domestically manufactured rockets, with serial deliveries scheduled to begin in 2030.
Strategic location and industrial scale
The new production site will be built on a 116-hectare plot near Polish Army Territorial Defence facilities in Gorzów Wielkopolski, in western Poland. Local authorities estimate that construction will be completed by the second quarter of 2028, with infrastructure investment reaching roughly PLN 2 billion.
Beyond rocket bodies, the factory will also manufacture complete rocket pods locally. This approach is intended to simplify logistics, accelerate loading operations, and reduce dependence on foreign supply chains during high-tempo operations.
Industrial sovereignty under Homar-K
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Poland’s Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz described the deal as a milestone for national defense industry policy, stating that it “fulfils our long-held ambition for production independence within the Homar-K programme.”
The new contract represents the third major agreement under Poland’s Homar-K framework. The initial contract, signed in November 2022, laid the foundation for one of Europe’s largest rocket artillery modernization efforts. That deal covered the delivery of 218 MRL modules based on the Chunmoo system, their integration onto Polish Jelcz truck chassis, comprehensive logistics and training packages, and large ammunition stocks.
Those ammunition orders included multiple guided rocket types with ranges spanning from 80 km (CGR-080) to approximately 290 km (CTM-290), giving Poland a layered precision-strike capability unmatched in the region.
Regional implications
With domestic rocket production now formally underway, Poland is positioning itself not only as a frontline user of advanced rocket artillery, but also as a growing manufacturing hub within NATO’s eastern flank. The Hanwha–WB factory is expected to deepen technology transfer, expand Poland’s skilled defense workforce, and strengthen supply resilience at a time when European demand for precision-guided munitions continues to rise sharply.
