Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić met in Belgrade with the newly appointed Egyptian ambassador Ahmed Salam Sulejman, marking the first formal engagement between the two officials and setting the tone for a broader defense and diplomatic agenda.

Gašić underscored that Serbia and Egypt have maintained friendly relations for more than a century, describing them as a strong foundation for expanding defense collaboration. He also emphasized that the personal rapport between President Aleksandar Vučić and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has been a key driver of accelerated cooperation across multiple sectors.

The meeting highlighted existing frameworks such as the Joint Egyptian-Serbian Military Committee and the bilateral military-technical cooperation mechanisms, which Gašić cited as tangible proof of strong institutional ties. Both sides agreed that the cooperation to date has been productive—but also acknowledged that there is significant potential for expansion in training, technology, logistics, and joint initiatives.

This encounter positions Belgrade and Cairo to push deeper into defense partnerships, potentially opening new channels for equipment exchanges, officer training, procurement dialogue, and regional military-diplomatic engagement.
