Ukraine and Croatia are advancing cooperation on the development of a subterranean facility for unmanned aerial system production. The project is intended to ensure continuity of drone manufacturing under wartime conditions while addressing vulnerabilities linked to foreign supply chains.

The initiative focuses on reducing dependence on Chinese-origin components, which Ukrainian officials have identified as a structural risk for sustained production. As drone usage expands across reconnaissance and strike roles, securing reliable and politically aligned supply chains has become a priority for Kyiv.

Croatian industry is expected to contribute to the project, with companies such as DOK-ING and Orqa referenced in connection with potential involvement. While detailed roles have not been officially confirmed, their participation would align with their established expertise in robotics, unmanned systems, and related technologies.

The underground nature of the facility reflects Ukraine’s broader approach to protecting defense production infrastructure from Russian strikes. Dispersed and hardened manufacturing has become a key element of Ukraine’s industrial strategy as attacks on critical facilities continue.

Croatia’s role in the initiative highlights a growing pattern of defense-industrial cooperation between Ukraine and European partners. Such collaboration supports both immediate wartime requirements and longer-term integration of Ukraine into European defense supply networks.

The project also reflects a wider shift toward localized and secure production ecosystems within Europe, particularly in sectors such as unmanned systems where demand has increased significantly since the start of the war.

No official timeline or production capacity figures have been disclosed. However, the involvement of established Croatian technology firms suggests a focus on scalable and technically specialized manufacturing capabilities.
