Romanian servicemembers deployed under the European Union Force (EUFOR) Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been awarded the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) medal, according to information released by the Romanian Ministry of National Defence.

The distinction was presented during a formal ceremony at Camp Butmir in Sarajevo, where EUFOR maintains its headquarters. The ministry indicated that the recognition reflects the contribution of Romanian personnel to supporting local institutions and maintaining a secure environment in the country.

The CSDP medal is awarded to personnel participating in EU-led missions and operations, symbolizing multinational cooperation under the EU’s security framework. Officials noted that the award highlights Romania’s continued participation in EU crisis management efforts and its role in sustaining stability in the Western Balkans.

Romanian forces are part of the long-running EUFOR Althea operation, which operates under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy and focuses on capacity-building and maintaining a safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mission remains one of the EU’s key military engagements in Southeast Europe, with contributions from multiple member states and partner nations.

The ministry stated that the deployment demonstrates Romania’s ongoing commitment to EU and regional security initiatives, as well as interoperability with allied forces in multinational operations.
