US-based Teledyne FLIR Defense has secured a contract worth up to $32 million to provide advanced reconnaissance systems for Bulgarian Armed Forces Stryker armored vehicles. The award forms part of Sofia’s broader effort to modernize its ground forces and align operational capabilities with NATO standards.

According to the company, the contract covers the delivery of reconnaissance sensor suites designed for integration on Stryker platforms operated by Bulgaria. The systems are intended to enhance situational awareness, target detection, and intelligence-gathering capabilities for mechanized units deployed in reconnaissance and screening roles.

The procurement builds on Bulgaria’s acquisition of Stryker armored vehicles as it replaces legacy Soviet-era equipment. Integrating US-origin reconnaissance systems is expected to improve interoperability with allied forces, particularly during joint exercises and multinational deployments on NATO’s eastern flank.

Teledyne FLIR Defense indicated that the contract includes options that could raise the total value to the stated ceiling, depending on follow-on orders and configuration requirements. The company’s sensor solutions are already in service with multiple NATO and partner nations, reducing integration and training risks for Bulgarian units.

From an industrial perspective, the program reinforces the role of US suppliers in Central and Eastern European land systems modernization while complementing Bulgaria’s wider defense investment plans. The contract also reflects continued demand for electro-optical and infrared reconnaissance technologies as European armies prioritize battlefield awareness and survivability.
