UNIS Ginex Faces Second Production Halt this Month as Workers Await Pay Decision
Production at Bosnia’s ammunition giant UNIS Ginex has been halted again as workers await confirmation of a promised 20% wage increase and 400 BAM bonus.
Gorazde, Bosnia and Herzegovina – Production at Bosnia’s leading ammunition manufacturer UNIS Ginex was once again halted today, as workers gathered inside the factory compound waiting for official confirmation of decisions made during a meeting held earlier in Sarajevo.
The company’s Supervisory Board announced a 20% salary increase for all employees, along with an additional 400 BAM monthly bonus, following consultations with the company’s management and the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Industry.
“This decision confirms the company’s commitment to its employees and the desire to fairly reward their effort and contribution,” the Board said in a statement. “It represents an important step in strengthening the material position of the workforce and reaffirms Ginex’s dedication to valuing professionalism and hard work.”
Under the new pay structure, the lowest net salary will now amount to 2,091 BAM, while the average salary will reach 2,890 BAM. The company said the move aims to boost motivation and ensure long-term stability while maintaining successful operations.
Friday’s earlier strike led to a complete production shutdown after employees demanded management fulfill previous promises related to wage increases. The Federal Prime Minister, Nermin Niksic, had previously intervened, and the Supervisory Board accepted the management’s proposal to raise the hourly rate to 6.15 BAM for a six-month period.
According to Ginex Director Dzenana Turkovic, the company has been trying to organize a follow-up meeting with the Prime Minister and the relevant minister since Friday, but scheduling conflicts delayed the process. Given the urgency of payroll processing — with salaries due tomorrow — today’s agreed model will reportedly apply retroactively to September.
As of this evening, workers remain inside the factory premises awaiting an official announcement confirming the decision’s implementation.
Ginex, based in Gorazde, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s key state-owned defense manufacturers, producing detonators, primers, and other ammunition components exported to dozens of countries worldwide.
