Germany Awards TYTAN Technologies Contract for Six Mobile Counter-Drone Systems
Germany’s Bundeswehr has awarded Munich-based TYTAN Technologies a contract for six mobile counter-drone systems under its SMoK3D program, advancing the protection of deployed military units against unmanned aerial threats.
Berlin / Munich, October 21, 2026. Germany's Bundeswehr has awarded Munich-based defense technology company TYTAN Technologies a contract to supply six mobile counter-unmanned aircraft systems under its SMoK3D program, according to a procurement notice published on October 21.
The contract was awarded by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). The SMoK3D program, short for Schutz mobiler Kräfte gegen UAS, is intended to protect mobile military units against threats from small unmanned aircraft.
The procurement covers six systems listed under the designation "TYTAN Drone Defender 2 TYTAN C2-Van."
Mercedes-Benz and TYTAN's Mobile Counter-Drone Platform
The procurement follows a partnership announced by TYTAN Technologies and Mercedes-Benz in June 2026. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding at the ILA aerospace exhibition in Berlin to develop vehicle-based counter-drone capabilities using the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Sprinter.
The jointly developed Drone Defender concept combines military vehicle platforms with radar, command-and-control equipment and autonomous interceptor drones.
At Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, Mercedes-Benz presented a configuration developed with TYTAN and specialist vehicle converter BINZ. The G-Class carried an extendable radar mast and drone-launch module, while the modified Sprinter incorporated operator workstations, secure communications, airspace surveillance cameras and additional drone-launch equipment.
TYTAN's interceptor portfolio includes the METIS and EOS systems, designed to engage different categories of unmanned aircraft. The company's modular approach allows interceptor launchers and sensors to be integrated into mobile platforms.
The publicly reported procurement information does not establish the precise vehicle configuration of all six ordered systems. Contract value and delivery dates have also not been confirmed in the sources reviewed.
Expanding Bundeswehr Counter-Drone Capabilities
The latest procurement builds on TYTAN's existing relationship with the German armed forces.
In October 2025, the BAAINBw announced an agreement with the company to develop a counter-drone demonstrator for protecting Bundeswehr installations. That project focused on combining autonomous interceptor drones with sensors and command-and-control technologies.
TYTAN has also expanded its industrial partnerships. In February 2026, the company announced cooperation with KNDS on counter-UAS solutions for military land systems, including work involving the BOXER RCT30 platform.
The new SMoK3D contract adds a specific procurement requirement for mobile force protection to TYTAN's Bundeswehr-related development activities, with six systems identified in the October 21 award notice.
