Munich Arson Suspects Linked to Alleged GRU Network, FAZ Says

German investigators suspect a Russian military intelligence connection to an attempted arson at a construction site near the Munich headquarters of Rohde & Schwarz and Helsing. According to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on September 25, two Bulgarian suspects may be linked to a GRU network that operated from Slovakia. Prosecutors have not publicly confirmed that connection.
The incident took place on September 3. The suspects allegedly threw incendiary devices from a moving car toward the construction site. One caused a fire, while police defused another. No one was injured, and authorities reported no major damage. Both suspects were arrested and placed in pretrial detention.
Rohde & Schwarz has a defense technology business, while Helsing develops AI-enabled unmanned systems and supplies Ukraine. Investigators have not established whether either company was the intended target.
FAZ also reported a suspected connection to the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport in August. German authorities have attributed that separate incident to Russian involvement, which Moscow denies. As AdriaDefense previously reported, a connection between the Leipzig and Munich cases had not been publicly established. The new account remains an investigative allegation, not a confirmed finding that the two incidents were directed by the same network.
