Poland Allocates PLN 753 Million to 29 PERUN Defense Technology Projects

Poland has committed PLN 753 million to 29 defense technology projects under the PERUN research and development program, as Warsaw seeks to strengthen cooperation between the armed forces, domestic industry, and scientific institutions.

The latest funding round includes 14 agreements valued at more than PLN 364 million. The contracts were signed at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw by the National Centre for Research and Development and participating Polish organizations.

Of the program’s total contract value, PLN 723 million is being provided by the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. PERUN is jointly implemented by the two ministries and the National Centre for Research and Development.

The supported projects cover artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, unmanned platforms, space technologies, cyber defense, soldier protection, and battlefield medicine. The program also includes technologies intended for operations on land, in the air, at sea, underwater, in cyberspace, and in space.

Polish defense officials said the initiative incorporates operational lessons from the war in Ukraine and is designed around requirements identified by the Polish Armed Forces. Research organizations and industrial partners are then tasked with developing technologies that could address those needs.

The funding model is intended to shorten the path between research, testing, and potential military application. However, the announcement did not provide individual delivery schedules or indicate when specific systems could enter operational service.

PERUN supports Poland’s broader effort to expand its domestic defense technology base alongside major conventional equipment procurements. The program could also increase opportunities for Polish companies and research institutes to participate in future national and NATO-oriented capability programs.
