Poland to Produce Anduril Barracuda Cruise Missiles Under New PGZ Partnership

Poland has signed an agreement with U.S. defense technology company Anduril Industries to establish European production of the Barracuda-500M cruise missile. The program will make Poland the first European manufacturing base for the system while expanding PGZ's missile production capabilities.

Poland's state-owned defense group PGZ has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with U.S. defense technology company Anduril Industries to assemble and eventually manufacture Barracuda-500M autonomous cruise missiles in Poland.

The agreement makes Poland the first European country selected to produce the Barracuda family of long range precision strike weapons, supporting Warsaw's broader effort to expand domestic missile manufacturing and reduce dependence on external suppliers.

According to the Polish government, initial assembly activities will take place at facilities in Bydgoszcz before progressing toward full domestic production supported by technology transfer and industrial know-how. Polish officials indicated the partnership is expected to provide PGZ with production expertise that could support the future development of a Polish variant of the missile.

The Barracuda-500M is designed as a low-cost autonomous cruise missile capable of launch from both fighter aircraft and ground-based systems. Industry information cited by local defense media indicates the weapon has a maximum air-launched range of approximately 926 kilometers and around 700 kilometers when launched from ground platforms. The missile is compatible with both F-16 and F-35 aircraft, two platforms that form a central part of Poland's future combat aviation fleet.

PGZ stated that the cooperation is intended to enable the rapid production of several thousand precision-guided missiles while strengthening Poland's industrial capacity in advanced guided weapons. Anduril also described the partnership as a step toward building a larger European manufacturing base capable of increasing the production rate of precision munitions to meet modern operational requirements.

The agreement follows a series of industrial partnerships pursued by Poland since 2022 as the country combines record defense spending with efforts to localize production through technology transfer agreements. Recent initiatives include missile manufacturing for the K239 Chunmoo system, artillery ammunition production, anti-drone missile development, K2 main battle tank manufacturing, and naval technology cooperation with international partners.

The Barracuda program further strengthens Poland's position as one of Europe's fastest-growing defense manufacturing hubs and reflects an increasing focus on expanding indigenous production capacity alongside major procurement programs.
