Rheinmetall has used Eurosatory 2026 to introduce Skyspotter, a new drone detection system designed to support the protection of critical infrastructure from unauthorized and potentially hostile unmanned aerial systems.

The system is being presented during the Paris defense exhibition, where the company is showcasing the latest additions to its counter-UAS portfolio. According to Rheinmetall, Skyspotter combines multiple sensor technologies to detect, identify, and track drones in real time, providing operators with early warning and improved situational awareness.

The manufacturer said the system was developed in response to the increasing number of drone-related incidents affecting critical infrastructure, particularly airports. Such incidents have highlighted the need for improved monitoring capabilities and faster threat assessment tools for both civilian and government operators.

Rheinmetall stated that Skyspotter is intended to support security personnel by providing continuous surveillance of protected areas and enabling rapid detection of aerial threats before they enter sensitive airspace.

The launch reflects broader demand across Europe for counter-UAS solutions as governments, armed forces, and infrastructure operators expand investments in airspace security. The growing use of commercial drones and the emergence of more sophisticated unmanned threats have accelerated interest in layered detection and protection systems.

AdriaDefense is attending Eurosatory 2026 in Paris and will provide on-site coverage of major announcements, defense programs, industry partnerships, and procurement developments throughout the exhibition.
