AvL Technologies has signed a $31 million contract with Polish defense supplier GISS Sp. z o.o. to provide Wideband Global SATCOM-certified satellite terminals in support of Poland’s Ministry of National Defence. AvL will provide 2.4-meter WGS-certified terminals

Under the agreement announced on September 8, AvL Technologies will supply its 2.4-meter trailer-mounted driveaway satellite terminals. The system uses a carbon-fiber reflector and precision antenna-positioning technology intended for rapidly deployable communications.

The terminal is certified for operation over X-band and military Ka-band frequencies and for use with the Wideband Global SATCOM system. WGS provides military satellite communications capacity to the United States and participating allied users, making terminal certification relevant to interoperability between national and allied communications networks.

AvL Technologies indicated that the award strengthens its position in international defense markets. The company will bring its engineering, manufacturing and WGS-certified terminal capabilities to the project, while GISS provides its experience in Poland’s defense market and military satellite communications sector.

Poland previously contracted GISS to deliver 100 Super High Frequency ManPack Cobalt satellite terminals under a PLN 38.1 million agreement. Those systems were scheduled for delivery between 2022 and 2024 and were configured for X-band operations, with Ku-band and potential Ka-band capabilities forming part of the terminal architecture.

GISS has since expanded its work on military SATCOM. On May 29, 2026, the company signed another contract with Poland’s Armament Agency covering Medium Satellite Terminals under the European Union’s Security Action for Europe framework.

That program has a base scope worth more than PLN 230 million, approximately EUR 54 million, while its optional scope exceeds PLN 2.1 billion, approximately EUR 495 million. Execution is planned through June 2030.

GISS also operates a Satellite Technology Research and Development Center near Warsaw and is developing multi-orbit satellite terminal technology under Poland’s PERUN research program. The project targets a ManPack VSAT terminal capable of communicating through low Earth orbit, medium Earth orbit and geostationary satellites using Ku and Ka bands.

The AvL Technologies contract arrives as Poland increases investment across both the ground and space segments of military communications.

In April 2026, Thales Alenia Space, Radmor and Airbus announced cooperation on a geostationary communications satellite for Poland’s Ministry of National Defence. That project includes work on communications payloads, secure ground infrastructure, cybersecurity and anti-jamming capabilities.
