Finnish Patria Sales Surge 40% to €933.5 Million as Operating Profit More Than Doubles

Finnish defense manufacturer Patria reported €933.5 million in sales and €113.9 million in operating profit for the first nine months of 2026, supported by expanding armored vehicle production and strong European demand.

Finnish defense manufacturer Patria reported a 39.5% increase in revenue to €933.5 million during the first nine months of 2026, while operating profit surged 136.2% to €113.9 million, according to financial results released on October 29. The company is expanding its armored vehicle and weapons manufacturing capacity as European governments accelerate military procurement.

Patria's operating profit margin increased from 7.2% to 12.2%, with all three business areas reporting higher sales and improved profitability compared with the same period last year.

The company's order backlog reached €3.52 billion at the end of September, representing a 34.8% increase from a year earlier and providing substantial visibility over future manufacturing activity.

Patria Expands Armored Vehicle Production

Patria attributed its strong financial performance to growing demand for its military vehicles, weapons systems and defense support services.

The company has continued investing in additional manufacturing capacity to respond to European procurement requirements, with particular emphasis on armored vehicles and weapons systems.

New orders during January–September totaled €871.9 million, slightly below the €882.1 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2025. The previous year's figure included a significant armored vehicle order from Denmark.

Despite the modest decline in new orders, Patria's order backlog remained close to the €3.53 billion recorded at the end of 2025, reflecting a substantial pipeline of contracted work.

The company's workforce also expanded, reaching 4,378 full-time equivalent employees at the end of September, compared with 4,058 one year earlier.

Germany, Latvia and Poland Support European Expansion

Patria's growth is closely connected to multinational European armored vehicle programs, particularly the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS), which is based on the Patria 6x6 platform.

In September, Patria and KNDS Deutschland expanded their industrial cooperation under the CAVS program, including plans for assembly and final integration of Patria 6x6 vehicles in Germany.

The arrangement strengthens Patria's position in one of Europe's largest defense markets while supporting local manufacturing and supply chain participation.

Patria is also advancing its new TRACKX tracked vehicle platform. Finland, Norway and Latvia signed a Statement of Intent in July to explore cooperation on development, testing and potential procurement of the vehicle.

On September 30, Finland and Sweden proceeded with their first TRACKX procurements, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027.

The platform is also attracting interest from specialized defense technology suppliers in Central and Eastern Europe.

As AdriaDefense reported in September, Patria and Polish defense manufacturer BELMA signed an agreement to explore integrating an automated mine-laying system with TRACKX, potentially creating an unmanned military engineering vehicle.

Drone Cooperation and New Defense Technologies

Beyond armored vehicles, Patria is expanding into unmanned systems and defense electronics.

In August, the company signed a Letter of Intent with Ukrainian drone manufacturer General Cherry to explore cooperation and the establishment of drone production in Finland.

During the same month, Patria demonstrated the remote operation of an AMV armored vehicle located in Finland from Tokyo, using secure 5G communications and drive-by-wire technology over a distance exceeding 7,800 kilometers.

In September, the company also announced an agreement to supply its MUSCL passive radar system to an undisclosed European NATO member state.

These developments illustrate Patria's efforts to expand beyond traditional armored vehicle manufacturing into remotely operated platforms, surveillance technologies and unmanned systems.

Strong Outlook for 2026

Patria expects strong revenue growth across its business areas for the full year, supported by existing orders and the continued expansion of European defense budgets.

The Finnish state owns 50.1% of Patria, while Norway's Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace holds the remaining 49.9%. Patria also owns 50% of Nordic ammunition manufacturer Nammo.

Nammo made a larger positive contribution to Patria's operating profit in the third quarter than during the corresponding period of 2025, further supporting the group's financial performance.

Patria recorded €1.09 billion in revenue for the full year 2025. With €933.5 million already generated during the first nine months of 2026, the company is approaching its previous annual revenue total before the final quarter.

The results highlight how rising European military expenditure is translating into higher production volumes, improved profitability and long-term industrial investment across the Nordic defense sector.
