Patria, BELMA Plan Unmanned TRACKX Mine-Laying Vehicle
Patria and Poland’s BELMA plan to integrate a modular mine-laying system with the TRACKX platform, creating a potential unmanned tracked mine-layer.
Polish defense manufacturer Bydgoskie Zakłady Elektromechaniczne BELMA S.A. and Finland’s Patria are exploring the integration of BELMA’s modular mine-laying system with the Patria TRACKX tracked vehicle. The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding at MSPO 2026 in Kielce, Poland, opening a path toward an unmanned tracked platform capable of deploying minefields while reducing direct crew exposure.
The agreement was signed on September 8 during the opening day of the International Defence Industry Exhibition, known as MSPO. Patria said the cooperation will evaluate how BELMA’s mine-laying technology can be integrated with the flatbed variant of TRACKX and assess potential customer and export opportunities.
Polish reporting from MSPO provides additional detail on the proposed configuration. The concept would equip TRACKX with four BELMA launchers, each carrying 20 cassettes containing MN-123 scatterable mines.
TRACKX could carry BELMA’s automated mine-laying system
The proposed vehicle combines Patria’s new tracked platform with a Polish system designed to automate minefield deployment.
According to Patria, BELMA’s modular system can deploy up to 600 anti-tank mines in less than 20 minutes. The company identifies TRACKX’s payload capacity, tracked mobility and modular architecture as factors supporting the integration of specialized mission equipment.
Defence24 reported from Kielce that the planned configuration would use four launchers, each fitted with 20 MN-123 mine cassettes.
The agreement does not constitute a procurement contract, and neither company has announced a customer for the proposed configuration. The Memorandum of Understanding instead establishes a framework for technical assessment and potential development of a customer offering.
The distinction is important because the project remains at the integration and evaluation stage.
Patria expands TRACKX beyond the personnel carrier role
TRACKX emerged from the multinational Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems program, known as FAMOUS, which receives funding through the European Defence Fund.
Patria has increasingly positioned TRACKX as a modular tracked platform rather than solely as an armored personnel carrier.
At Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, Patria and RENK Group presented a heavy unmanned ground vehicle concept combining TRACKX with RENK’s HSWL 076 transmission and drive-by-wire mobility architecture. That project demonstrated a pathway toward remotely operated and potentially autonomous TRACKX variants.
The BELMA cooperation adds combat engineering to the platform’s potential mission set.
Patria has also attracted government interest in the broader TRACKX family. Finland and Sweden agreed in June 2026 to cooperate on preparations for potential procurement, including pre-series vehicles, while Finland, Norway and Latvia signed a separate Statement of Intent in July covering development, field-trial information and possible joint procurement.
Patria has previously indicated that it aims to have TRACKX ready for serial production in 2027.
Polish technology adds a battlefield engineering role
BELMA, based in Bydgoszcz, specializes in mine warfare equipment and forms part of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, Poland’s state-controlled defense industry group.
Its cooperation with Patria gives a Polish mission system a potential route onto a multinational European tracked vehicle program.
The proposed combination is also significant because mine warfare has regained prominence in European land-force planning. The war in Ukraine has demonstrated the operational importance of extensive minefields and the risks faced by engineering units operating close to contested areas.
An unmanned or remotely operated tracked mine-layer could allow forces to establish obstacles while keeping operators farther from exposed deployment areas.
The current agreement, however, does not establish how autonomous the final system would be, what level of remote control would be used, or when a prototype could enter trials. Neither company has announced a development schedule or procurement timeline.
TRACKX becomes a platform for specialized unmanned missions
The BELMA agreement illustrates a broader direction for TRACKX.
Rather than developing separate tracked vehicles for every specialized task, Patria is building the platform around an architecture that can accept different mission systems. The mine-laying concept follows the heavy unmanned ground vehicle configuration shown with RENK in June.
The industrial structure also reflects a wider European trend toward combining platforms and mission equipment developed in different NATO countries.
For Poland, the project creates another potential route for domestic defense technology into multinational programs. For Patria, BELMA provides a specialized mine-warfare capability that could expand the number of roles available for TRACKX.
The next significant milestone will be whether the companies move from the Memorandum of Understanding to an integrated demonstrator and field testing.
