The Greek Parliament has ratified two bilateral defense agreements with Bulgaria and Montenegro, completing the legislative process following their approval by the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs. The measures are intended to expand defense cooperation within NATO's southeastern region and enhance military interoperability among the participating countries.

The agreement with Bulgaria establishes a framework for providing host nation support to the Greek military contingent conducting air and maritime patrol missions from Bulgarian territory. The arrangement is designed to facilitate operational activities, logistics, and administrative support for deployments linked to NATO missions. The agreement was signed by the two defense ministries in Sofia and Athens in 2021 before being submitted for parliamentary ratification.

The second measure ratifies a memorandum of understanding with Montenegro concerning the mutual protection of classified military information. The agreement establishes procedures for handling, storing, and exchanging sensitive defense information, creating a legal framework for closer military and defense industrial cooperation between the two countries.

The two agreements form part of Greece's broader effort to strengthen bilateral defense relationships across the Balkans while supporting NATO interoperability and regional security. For Bulgaria, the host support arrangement contributes to allied operational readiness in the Black Sea region. The agreement with Montenegro provides an additional legal basis for expanding cooperation in defense planning, procurement, and joint activities involving classified information.
