India, Austria Hold First Defense Industry Conference in Vienna

India and Austria are holding their first bilateral defense industry conference in Vienna today, bringing companies from both countries together to explore technology cooperation and industrial partnerships. The September 23 meeting marks a new industry-focused step in defense relations following a bilateral agreement on military cooperation earlier this year.
The India-Austria Defence Industry Conference takes place at the Ritz-Carlton Vienna from 09:30 to 13:00. Organizers say the program focuses on targeted business-to-business meetings, technology cooperation and potential partnerships between Indian and Austrian defense companies.
The Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers is organizing the wider Indian delegation together with the Embassy of India in Vienna and India's Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence.
The conference forms the first day of a two-day Indian defense industry visit to Austria on September 23-24.
On September 24, the Indian delegation is scheduled to visit leading Austrian defense and industrial facilities. The Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers said Indian participants were asked in advance to identify Austrian companies they wanted to meet, allowing the Indian Embassy to arrange targeted bilateral discussions.
The initiative follows the signing of a Letter of Intent on Cooperation in Military Matters between India and Austria during the Austrian chancellor's visit to India in April 2026. According to the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers, the Vienna visit is intended to translate that broader political framework into defense-industrial cooperation.
At least several Indian defense and technology companies are participating in company-level meetings in Vienna. The event's B2B scheduling platform lists Bharat Electronics Limited alongside Accurate Industrial Controls, Ammunic Systems, B&T India and Kenra Technologies among the Indian participants available for bilateral meetings.
Bharat Electronics Limited is particularly notable because the state-controlled company is one of India's major defense electronics manufacturers, with activities spanning radars, electronic warfare, communications and other military electronics.
The Vienna conference comes as India seeks wider international industrial partnerships alongside its policy of expanding domestic defense production. For Austrian suppliers, the discussions provide an opportunity to explore access to India's expanding defense manufacturing ecosystem through technology, supply-chain and industrial partnerships.
The immediate measure of the conference will be whether today's B2B discussions produce specific cooperation agreements, technology partnerships or follow-on negotiations.
The second day of the delegation's visit could also provide additional indications of which Austrian technologies and companies are attracting interest from Indian manufacturers.
