Lithuania’s Defence Materiel Agency has signed a procurement contract with Sweden-based Saab subsidiary Saab Dynamics AB for the acquisition of 84 mm Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon systems, related components, and training equipment, according to the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence.

The agreement includes Carl-Gustaf M4 outdoor training simulators, spare parts, and small-caliber adapters intended for training ammunition use. Deliveries are expected to begin later this year.

Alongside the procurement package, Lithuania and Saab Dynamics AB also signed an industrial cooperation agreement valued at approximately €17 million. Lithuanian officials stated that the arrangement is intended to support national industrial competencies in ammunition storage, logistics, engineering solutions, and safety technologies while contributing to the expansion of the country’s defense-industrial base.

The newly announced order forms part of a broader 10-year framework agreement between Lithuania and Saab Dynamics AB. According to the ministry, the total value of the long-term arrangement, including possible future options, could reach approximately €58 million. The framework covers Carl-Gustaf M4 systems, training ammunition adapters, and Carl-Gustaf Outdoor Trainer solutions.

Lithuania has accelerated defense procurement and infrastructure modernization efforts in response to the regional security environment and NATO capability requirements. The country has increasingly linked major acquisitions with industrial participation measures designed to strengthen local defense manufacturing and sustainment capacity.
