Patria Advances Technology Transfer to Lithuania Under CAVS Program
Finnish defense company Patria has signed agreements with Lithuanian partners to support local production activities tied to the Common Armoured Vehicle System program. The move expands industrial cooperation linked to Lithuania’s planned acquisition of Patria 6x6 armored vehicles.
Patria is moving forward with technology transfer arrangements in Lithuania as part of the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System, or CAVS, program, according to the company.
The agreements are intended to establish local industrial participation connected to Lithuania’s planned fleet of Patria 6x6 armored vehicles. Patria stated that cooperation will include manufacturing-related activities and the transfer of technical know-how to Lithuanian industry.
Lithuania joined the CAVS framework in 2022 and signed a contract for Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers in 2024. The country is among several NATO members participating in the program, which was launched to improve interoperability while supporting European defense-industrial cooperation.
According to Patria, Lithuanian companies will be integrated into the vehicle production and support chain. The company indicated that local involvement is expected to cover manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and lifecycle support activities.
The CAVS initiative currently includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, and Lithuania. The program is designed to create a common armored vehicle platform while distributing industrial workshare among participating states.
Patria has increasingly emphasized regional production partnerships as European governments seek to strengthen domestic defense manufacturing capacity and reduce supply chain dependence. The Lithuanian agreements align with broader efforts across NATO and the European Union to expand local industrial resilience and defense readiness.
The Patria 6x6 platform has gained traction in Northern and Eastern Europe as governments accelerate procurement programs focused on mobility, troop transport, and territorial defense requirements.
