Polish Defense Tech Startup PERUN Secures NCBR Funding to Advance Military Technologies

Polish defense technology startup PERUN has obtained support from Poland's National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) through the government's PERUN defense innovation program, strengthening the company's ability to develop technologies for military and security applications. The funding forms part of a broader national effort to expand the domestic defense innovation ecosystem and increase cooperation between industry, research institutions, and government.

According to the company, the funding will support research and development activities focused on technologies with potential military applications. The startup aims to accelerate product development while expanding its engineering capabilities and preparing solutions for future defense customers.

The award comes as Poland continues to increase investment in indigenous defense technologies through the PERUN program, a joint initiative of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the National Centre for Research and Development. The program is intended to finance research projects addressing operational requirements identified by the Polish Armed Forces and strengthen the country's technological base for future procurement.

Recent funding rounds under the PERUN program have supported projects covering artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, sensors, advanced materials, counter-UAS technologies, battlefield medicine, and protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats. The initiative is also designed to encourage closer cooperation between startups, established defense companies, research institutes, and military organizations.

For Poland's defense industry, the inclusion of emerging technology companies such as PERUN reflects a broader strategy of expanding the country's innovation pipeline while reducing dependence on foreign technologies in selected capability areas.
