Saildrone has opened its European headquarters in Copenhagen and plans to establish production operations in Poland, Norway and the Netherlands as the US unmanned surface vessel manufacturer expands its industrial footprint in Europe. The move builds on Saildrone operations in the Baltic Sea and growing European demand for autonomous maritime surveillance and seabed monitoring.

The expansion is particularly relevant for Poland because it adds the country to Saildrone's planned European production network alongside two established North Sea maritime markets. Details on the Polish production location, local industrial partners, investment and employment have not yet been disclosed in the available reporting.

Saildrone adds European production to Copenhagen headquarters

The company formally opened its European headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a ceremony attended by Prince Joachim of Denmark, who serves as Denmark's defense industry attaché and deputy defense attaché in Washington. Defence Nordic reported on August 18 that production will start in Norway, Poland and the Netherlands.

Saildrone originally announced its Danish subsidiary in April 2025. The company positioned Copenhagen as a base for supporting European operations and NATO allies, with a particular focus on maritime domain awareness in the Baltic Sea and surrounding waters.

The expansion received financial backing in May 2025 through a $60 million investment round led by the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark. Saildrone said at the time that the financing would support its European expansion and maritime security activities.

Poland joins emerging European USV manufacturing network

Saildrone has not yet publicly detailed which platforms will be produced in Poland, Norway and the Netherlands or how manufacturing will be divided among the three countries.

However, the company has previously outlined plans for European production of its 10-meter Voyager. In February 2026, Saildrone Europe Managing Director Robert Kleist told Janes that the company planned to manufacture 10 to 15 Voyager USVs annually as part of its European operation. Around 10 countries in the region had expressed interest or were progressing toward agreements at that time.

The inclusion of Poland therefore creates a potential new industrial dimension to Saildrone's Baltic strategy. Poland combines direct Baltic access with a growing defense manufacturing base and rising investment in unmanned systems, surveillance and maritime security.

The next indicators will be the selection of Polish production partners and facilities, followed by recruitment or supplier activity. Those details will show whether Poland receives final assembly work or a broader role involving components, integration, maintenance and lifecycle support.

Baltic operations provide an existing European customer base

Saildrone already has operational experience in Northern Europe. Four Voyager USVs began deployment in Danish waters in June 2025 as part of testing with the Danish Armed Forces and associated defense organizations.

By March 2026, Saildrone said four Voyagers had operated continuously in the Baltic Sea for six months and achieved 92% fleet uptime. The company also integrated a sub-bottom profiler for seabed and critical infrastructure monitoring during work supporting the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation.

The Voyager is a 10-meter USV designed for persistent surface and subsurface surveillance. Saildrone also markets the smaller 7-meter Explorer and larger 20-meter Surveyor for missions ranging from environmental observation to maritime intelligence and deep-ocean mapping.

European production would place manufacturing closer to customers in the Baltic, North Sea and European Arctic while increasing the European industrial content of systems supplied to regional governments.

The expansion also fits a wider shift toward European manufacturing of autonomous maritime systems. Rheinmetall Kraken began series production of the K3 Scout USV in Hamburg in April 2026, while Estonian shipbuilder Baltic Workboats is building the EUROGUARD autonomous vessel prototype in Estonia.

Q&A: Saildrone production in Europe

Where will Saildrone produce USVs in Europe?

Saildrone plans production operations in Poland, Norway and the Netherlands, according to Defence Nordic. Its European headquarters and operational hub are in Copenhagen, Denmark.

What will Saildrone produce in Poland?

The specific platforms, production site and Polish industrial partners have not yet been publicly identified in the available reporting. Saildrone has separately outlined plans to produce 10 to 15 Voyager USVs annually as part of its European operation.

What is the Saildrone Voyager?

The Voyager is a 10-meter unmanned surface vessel used for persistent maritime surveillance and subsurface monitoring. Saildrone has already operated the platform in the Baltic Sea in cooperation with Danish defense authorities.

Why is Poland significant for Saildrone?

Poland gives Saildrone an industrial presence on NATO's eastern Baltic flank and could support customers seeking autonomous maritime surveillance and critical infrastructure monitoring. The scale of the Polish role will depend on the production model, local partners and workshare that Saildrone ultimately establishes.
