NORA, Sweden, October 20, 2026. Swedish explosives manufacturer SWEBAL has begun initial groundwork for its planned TNT production facility in Nora, marking another milestone in efforts to expand Europe’s domestic explosives manufacturing capacity.

According to the company, the first phase involves clearing and leveling the site in preparation for construction. The work is expected to continue through the first quarter of 2027.

“After 1.5 years of meticulous planning, this is a pivotal milestone in SWEBAL’s mission to contribute to defense capacity building,” said Sebastian Reismer, Project Manager at SWEBAL.

Founded and led by CEO Joakim Sjöblom, SWEBAL is developing the facility to reduce European dependence on imported explosives and strengthen the ammunition supply chain. The plant is designed to produce more than 4,000 metric tons of TNT annually, with production targeted for 2028.

While preliminary site preparations are underway, construction of the production facility remains dependent on the detailed zoning plan receiving final legal approval.
