Ukrainian defense technology manufacturer BlueBird Tech has introduced the Chuyka 4.5.0, a new portable drone detector featuring expanded radio-frequency coverage and the ability to display intercepted analog FPV video on external monitors.

The company announced the system on October 19, 2026, describing it as a response to the changing communication frequencies used by Russian FPV and fixed-wing drones operating over Ukraine.

The new detector operates across four frequency bands, with coverage extending to 8.8 GHz. According to BlueBird Tech, the system can detect compatible drone signals at distances of up to four kilometers, depending on transmitter power and operating conditions.

Expanded Detection Across Four Frequency Bands

The Chuyka 4.5.0 monitors four separate frequency ranges: 1,080–2,200 MHz, 2,870–4,500 MHz, 4,890–6,040 MHz, and 6,050–8,800 MHz.

The expanded upper-frequency coverage is intended to improve detection of drones using communication channels outside the frequency ranges supported by earlier detector configurations.

BlueBird Tech says the system scans all four bands in approximately four to eight seconds. When a compatible signal is detected, the device generates visual and audible warnings and can display intercepted analog video on its integrated screen.

The company developed the updated system as Russian drone operators increasingly change their video transmission frequencies to reduce the effectiveness of existing detection equipment.

Valerii Zarubin, CEO of BlueBird Tech, said the company continues adapting its systems based on feedback from Ukrainian military personnel and changing conditions on the battlefield.

External Video Output for Military Command Posts

One of the main additions to the Chuyka 4.5.0 is external analog video output, allowing users to display intercepted drone camera feeds on larger screens.

The feature enables personnel at command posts and operational headquarters to view compatible FPV video transmissions without relying exclusively on the detector's integrated display.

The system is designed to provide early warning and situational awareness rather than physically intercept or electronically jam approaching drones.

BlueBird Tech states that the detector can identify drone signals at distances of up to four kilometers. This is a manufacturer-reported maximum, not a guaranteed detection distance under all battlefield conditions.

Compact Design for Field Operations

The Chuyka 4.5.0 measures 104 × 158 × 67 millimeters and weighs up to 940 grams.

Its PETG plastic enclosure carries an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance. The unit also features active cooling and MOLLE-compatible mounting attachments for integration with tactical equipment.

According to the manufacturer, the integrated battery provides up to 4.5 hours of autonomous operation. The detector supports external power through USB-C and XT60 connections and can operate with external power sources rated between 12 and 28 volts.

The device's name refers to the Ukrainian military expression "4.5.0," which indicates that a situation is calm and no immediate threats have been identified.

BlueBird Tech Expands Its Ukrainian Defense Electronics Portfolio

Based in Odesa, BlueBird Tech develops and manufactures electronic warfare equipment, drone detection systems, antennas and unmanned aircraft.

The company has been expanding the Chuyka product family as battlefield operators adopt new frequencies for FPV video transmission. In September 2026, BlueBird Tech announced an extension of its Chuyka 4.0 detection range to 4.5 GHz, targeting signals increasingly associated with Russian Molniya strike drones.

The new Chuyka 4.5.0 builds on those earlier developments by combining broader frequency coverage with revised hardware and external display functionality.

BlueBird Tech has not disclosed a specific military procurement contract, production volume or delivery schedule associated with the newly announced model.
