Bridgepoint Acquires Majority Stake in Danish Defense Technology Firm UMag Solutions
Private equity firm Bridgepoint has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Denmark's UMag Solutions, a developer of drone-based subsurface threat detection systems. The investment reflects growing investor interest in European defense technologies.
Bridgepoint has signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Danish defense technology company UMag Solutions, strengthening its presence in Europe's rapidly expanding defense technology sector. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the deal remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.
Founded in 2018 as a spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark, UMag develops drone-based magnetic sensing systems designed to detect subsurface threats on land and at sea. The company's technology combines proprietary airborne hardware, detection algorithms, and software to provide real-time identification of buried or submerged objects, supporting military engineering, mine clearance, and infrastructure protection missions.
Following the transaction, UMag's founders will retain significant shareholdings and continue to lead the company. Bridgepoint said it intends to support the company's international expansion while increasing investment in research and development and production capacity.
The investment comes as European governments continue to increase defense spending, with demand rising for autonomous platforms, advanced sensors, and technologies capable of improving battlefield awareness. According to Bridgepoint, UMag's detection capabilities address a growing operational requirement among NATO and allied armed forces for faster and more accurate identification of hidden threats.
The acquisition also expands Bridgepoint's portfolio of defense-related investments. The private equity group previously acquired Danish counter-UAS specialist MyDefence and has continued to increase its exposure to companies operating in defense and security technologies.
For the European defense industrial base, the transaction highlights continued investor confidence in specialized sensing technologies that support military mobility, explosive ordnance disposal, and protection of critical infrastructure. It also underscores Denmark's growing role as a source of advanced defense innovation within the NATO ecosystem.
