Lithuania Deepens Defence Ties with Lockheed Martin, Targets Local Industry Integration
Lithuania has signed a new agreement with Lockheed Martin to deepen defense-industrial cooperation. The deal focuses on long-term collaboration, including sustainment and capability development. It reflects Vilnius’ continued alignment with U.S. defense suppliers and NATO requirements.
Lithuania has concluded a new defense cooperation agreement with U.S.-based manufacturer Lockheed Martin, reinforcing its long-term procurement and industrial strategy. The arrangement is intended to expand collaboration beyond platform acquisition, with a focus on sustainment, training, and potential industrial participation.
According to information released by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the agreement establishes a framework for closer engagement with the company across multiple capability areas. Officials indicated that the cooperation will support lifecycle management of existing systems and facilitate future acquisitions aligned with NATO standards.
Lockheed Martin already plays a role in Lithuania’s defense inventory, particularly through systems linked to air and missile defense. The expanded cooperation is expected to improve operational readiness and ensure continued access to technical support and upgrades.
The ministry stated that the agreement also opens the possibility for involvement of Lithuanian industry in maintenance and support activities. While no specific industrial projects were disclosed, the framework is positioned to strengthen local capacity over time.
The move reflects broader regional trends, with several Central and Eastern European countries seeking deeper integration with major U.S. defense contractors. For Lithuania, the agreement underscores its priority on interoperability within NATO and sustained investment in advanced capabilities amid evolving security dynamics in the Baltic region.
