South Korea and Croatia Expand Defense and Energy Cooperation
South Korea and Croatia have agreed to deepen cooperation in the defense and energy sectors following high level talks in Seoul. The discussions also covered industrial collaboration, science and technology, and public safety initiatives.
South Korea and Croatia have moved to strengthen bilateral cooperation in defense, energy, and strategic industries following a meeting between South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman in Seoul.
The visit marked the first trip by Croatia’s top diplomat to South Korea in eight years and reflected growing political and industrial engagement between the two countries. According to South Korea’s foreign ministry, the discussions focused on expanding future oriented cooperation in sectors including the defense industry, batteries, science and technology, and broader economic ties.
Croatian officials indicated that practical cooperation has accelerated in recent years through a series of memorandums of understanding covering defense, the economy, and technology cooperation. The two sides also discussed improving industrial connectivity between Croatian and South Korean companies as both countries seek stronger links in strategic manufacturing and supply chains.
Energy and logistics cooperation were also part of the talks. Discussions reportedly included potential cooperation involving the Port of Rijeka and the Port of Busan, with both sides viewing the ports as strategic gateways connecting European and East Asian trade routes.
The ministers additionally agreed to pursue a memorandum of understanding on public safety intended to support safer travel arrangements between the two countries. Officials also confirmed plans to accelerate negotiations on a working holiday program and continue educational and diplomatic exchange initiatives.
The latest discussions come as South Korea continues expanding defense and industrial partnerships across Europe, particularly in NATO member states seeking diversification of suppliers and increased cooperation in advanced manufacturing and security technologies.
