Threod Systems Unveils EOS D ISTAR Drone with Laser Designation Capability at Eurosatory 2026

Estonian defence technology company Threod Systems has introduced the EOS D ISTAR, a lightweight 15 kg unmanned aerial system featuring integrated laser target designation capabilities, expanding the role of small tactical drones in modern battlefield operations.

Estonian defence technology company Threod Systems has unveiled its new EOS D ISTAR unmanned aerial system at Eurosatory 2026, bringing advanced intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities into a compact 15 kg drone platform. 

The newly launched system combines electro-optical reconnaissance with laser target designation, allowing operators not only to detect and identify targets but also to support precision-guided munitions and coordinated fires. The capability is typically associated with larger and more expensive platforms, making its integration into a lightweight tactical drone a notable development. 

Threod Systems has built a reputation in the defence UAV sector through its electro-optical payloads, launcher systems and reconnaissance drones, with its technologies currently deployed across multiple NATO countries and Ukraine. The company has recently expanded its footprint through new defence partnerships and export contracts, including the British Army's ASGARD one-way effector programme. 

The EOS D ISTAR launch comes as armed forces increasingly seek smaller, deployable systems capable of delivering real-time intelligence and supporting precision strike operations. The trend has been accelerated by lessons learned from the war in Ukraine, where tactical drones have become essential battlefield assets.
