Germany’s Quantum Systems, XTEND Link AI for NATO Missions

Quantum Systems and XTEND AI Robotics are integrating their mission software and autonomous systems to create a common architecture spanning intelligence collection, swarming and strike missions. The companies announced the partnership on September 10, with the cooperation already supporting an autonomous systems program for an undisclosed European NATO customer. 

The integration will connect the XTEND Operating System, known as XOS, with Quantum Systems MOSAIC UXS mission software. The companies plan to use the combined architecture to allow different unmanned platforms, sensors and mission capabilities to operate within a common environment rather than as separate platform-specific systems. 

MOSAIC UXS will integrate XTEND XOS and autonomous systems

At the center of the agreement is Quantum Systems MOSAIC UXS, an artificial intelligence-enabled mission software environment designed to connect unmanned systems, sensors and other capabilities across operational domains.

XTEND will contribute XOS and its autonomous mission capabilities to that architecture. XTEND describes XOS as an open platform that can connect autonomous platforms, payloads, sensors and third-party applications. 

The companies have already demonstrated integrated workflows at multiple locations. Further customer programs and demonstrations are planned during 2026 and beyond, although Quantum Systems and XTEND did not disclose their value, participating platforms or delivery schedules. 

A key objective is to connect intelligence collection with subsequent mission execution. This potentially allows information generated by reconnaissance assets to move through a common software environment to other autonomous systems tasked with subsequent actions.

The partnership specifically identifies sensing, swarming and strike among the mission areas targeted for interoperability. Neither company disclosed the degree of autonomy planned for individual mission functions or detailed how human authorization would be incorporated into strike workflows. 

European NATO customer provides first operational program

The most significant element of the announcement is that the cooperation has moved beyond a technology integration proposal. Quantum Systems and XTEND said they are already supporting a joint autonomous systems program for a European NATO customer. 

The customer has not been identified, and the companies have not disclosed the contract value or number of systems involved.

That European connection gives the partnership additional relevance for NATO procurement. Militaries across the alliance are increasingly examining architectures that can integrate unmanned aircraft, ground systems, sensors and effectors without requiring every component to originate from a single manufacturer.

The approach also reflects a broader shift in the unmanned systems market toward software-defined integration. Instead of competing solely on individual drone performance, suppliers are increasingly positioning mission software, autonomy and interoperability as layers capable of connecting multiple platforms.

For Quantum Systems, MOSAIC UXS provides the software backbone for that strategy. The German company says it employs more than 1,700 people across eight countries and develops autonomous systems, sensors and counter-unmanned systems capabilities for air, land, sea and related domains. 

XTEND expands European role after NATO contract and NYSE listing

The agreement also extends XTEND's growing position in European and allied defense markets.

XTEND says more than 12,500 of its systems have been deployed across more than 30 countries. Its manufacturing network includes facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, Israel and Latvia, giving the company an industrial presence inside both NATO and the European Union. 

The company announced a separate multi-year contract worth up to approximately $15 million with the Ministry of Defense of an undisclosed European NATO member in August 2026. Approximately $4.5 million was secured for the first year of that agreement.

XTEND then began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker XTND on September 4 after completing its business combination with JFB Construction Holdings and raising $110 million in total capital.

The company has also broadened XOS beyond aerial platforms. Its September introduction of AtlasROVER into the XOS ecosystem extended the software architecture into ground robotics, supporting XTEND's effort to position XOS as a common operating layer across different types of autonomous systems. 

Software interoperability becomes a procurement issue

For European armed forces, the Quantum Systems-XTEND agreement illustrates how competition in autonomous systems is moving toward the architecture connecting sensors, decision-support software and effectors.

Open or modular architectures can give customers more flexibility to add platforms from different suppliers, but practical interoperability depends on interfaces, data standards, security requirements and integration with existing command-and-control networks.

The undisclosed European NATO program will therefore be an important reference for both companies. A successful deployment could provide evidence that MOSAIC UXS and XOS can operate together beyond demonstrations and could support additional NATO customer programs.

Quantum Systems and XTEND have not disclosed which platforms are involved in the European program. Their next demonstrations and customer deployments should provide a clearer indication of how broadly the two software environments can connect autonomous reconnaissance, swarming and strike capabilities.
