Russian Media Claims Serbian and Bosnian Defense Products Continue Reaching Ukraine
Russian state media reported that military products originating from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are still reaching Ukraine through third countries. The report cited unnamed sources and focused on indirect export channels involving ammunition and defense-related components.
Russian media outlets have renewed claims that defense products manufactured in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina continue to reach Ukraine through indirect export routes despite political sensitivities surrounding arms transfers to Kyiv.
According to reporting published by Russian state-linked media and carried by RIA Novosti, ammunition and military-related equipment produced in the Western Balkans are allegedly being exported via intermediary states before ultimately arriving in Ukraine. The report referenced unnamed sources familiar with the matter but did not provide documentary evidence or shipment data.
The claims focused on defense-industrial production from companies in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly ammunition and artillery-related products that remain in demand due to continued high consumption rates in the war in Ukraine.
Neither the Serbian government nor institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued immediate comments regarding the allegations. The Russian report also did not specify whether exports were conducted directly to Ukraine or re-exported through NATO and EU member states.
Defense exports from the Western Balkans have drawn increased international attention since the start of the war in Ukraine, especially as European and NATO countries continue efforts to replenish ammunition stockpiles and expand artillery shell production capacity.
Bosnia and Herzegovina maintains a significant ammunition manufacturing base inherited from the former Yugoslav defense industry. Several companies in the Federation entity export small-caliber and artillery ammunition to international markets under existing licensing procedures.
Serbia has also remained an important regional producer of ammunition and ground systems. Belgrade officially maintains a policy of military neutrality while continuing defense exports to a broad range of foreign customers.
The latest Russian claims emerge amid continued scrutiny of European ammunition supply chains and growing demand for Soviet-caliber and NATO-standard munitions across the Ukrainian theater.
